I was born the eldest daughter, third eldest of eight children, and a PK (preacher’s kid). We lived on a sheep farm without such amenities as electricity or running water for most of my formative years. I enrolled in a registered nursing program right out of high school and have been blessed to be part of this profession for 49 years. I’ve worked most hospital units as well as administration, Community Health, taught nursing, and had a private practice offering Therapeutic Touch, Spiritual Direction, and health assessments. Most recently I have been writing nursing curriculum.
A seismic shift in my life occurred with the expected death of my very ill soulmate. Though I witnessed death in family and friends, had worked with dying patients and families, wrote curriculum and taught end of life care, I was shocked by the depth of suffering with Ron’s passing. Nothing had prepared me for the agony of the loss of a soulmate. I began writing poetry that surfaced to me one line at a time. I was comforted immeasurably by these words coming to me from my soul. I began to heal. As I shared poems with others, I was encouraged to publish. I am now blessed to meet with Hospice volunteers and clients to share readings from my book and engage in deep conversations about love, loss, grief, and healing.
I am also blessed in having found another soulmate who shares my life; summers in Canada and winters in the US. We share a deep spirituality, outdoor hobbies such as biking, boating, hiking, as well as movies, music, and dancing. We value relationships with our friends and extended families. Life is complex, rich, and fulfilling. I continue to write as I dance with the Divine; a spiritual being on a physical journey.
